Commissary buys into goal of best quality groceries

July 1 marked 159 years of commissaries providing goods and groceries to military families.

The commissary was originally only open to officers in 1825. But in 1867, two years after the Civil War ended, commissaries became open to all Soldiers regardless of rank. The Redstone Commissary is only 67 years old, being established in 1959.
