WASHINGTON (7News) — Saturday brings a dangerous combination of intense heat, high humidity and the threat of severe thunderstorms across the Washington region. A heat advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. for parts of the DMV, with heat index values near 105.
Storms may begin developing during the afternoon before another potentially more organized round moves in during the evening. Damaging winds are the primary concern, but large hail, torrential rain, localized flooding and an isolated tornado are also possible. Multiple rounds of storms may affect the area, so this is a day to remain weather-aware and have a way to receive warnings.
The setup has prompted the Storm Prediction Center to place much of the D.C. region under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for multiple rounds of active weather.
The good news? Once the front clears the area, Sunday looks noticeably more comfortable.
