ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Collectors, history lovers, and antique enthusiasts will soon have a rare opportunity in Old Town Alexandria. The Joe Reeder Estate Sale will open Aug. 20–23 at the historic Murray-Dick-Fawcett House. Over the four-day event, visitors can browse authentic antiques, artwork, home décor, and unusual collectibles gathered over a lifetime.
A Friendship Built on History
Wayne Fisher, owner of Wayne Fisher’s American Design at 114 S. Royal Street, organized and staged the sale. Having shared a close friendship with Reeder for many years, Fisher noted that their joint passion for antiques created a lasting bond.
“This is not a typical estate sale,” Fisher said. “Everything is authentic. You won’t find reproductions or cheaply made imports. Skilled craftsmen created these pieces, and each one has a story.”
Craftsmanship and Character
The collection features a broad selection of fine antiques, artwork, folk art, decorative accessories, and quirky treasures. According to Fisher, Reeder selected every piece for its craftsmanship, history, or character, and many objects also carried deep emotional value for their original owners.
Before settling in Alexandria, Fisher studied painting and art history. He shared that the city immediately felt like home, which led him to open his Royal Street shop specializing in authentic furnishings, antiques, and decorative arts for smaller homes and apartments.
The Thrill of the Hunt
Above all, Reeder loved the search for exceptional objects. Fisher playfully joked that his friend suffered from “acquire’s disease.”
“He loved buying things,” Fisher said. “Collectors understand that feeling. You discover something special and simply cannot leave it behind.”
