This afternoon the DMV will be split at the I-66 corridor. North of I-66 will have a mostly quiet day for the most part, while some isolated showers may spill in from this activity across far western Maryland, West Virginia, and the Shenandoah Valley. South of I-66, a few storms may develop in southern counties (Page, Madison, Orange, Culpeper and Spotsylvania) of Northern Virginia. It will stay cooler today, compared to the last several days, as highs will hold in the low to mid-80s, but the humidity will stick around.
Tonight, drier air really starts to filter in from the north and under partly cloudy skies the thermometer looks to drop into the upper 60s in the Beltway region, but in the mid-50s out in Western Maryland, after some early evening rain showers.
Sunday some clouds are likely to hang around, but we will also see a fair amount of sunshine too, as high pressure to our north helps to clear out the remaining clouds. Afternoon highs tomorrow will only reach the upper 70s and lower 80s, and the humid air we have been dealing with this past week, will finally head out and give way to a very comfortable feel. It stays just as beautiful heading into Monday (Labor Day), with even sunnier skies on tap. Overnight lows will tumble enough to feel refreshing, down into the upper 50s and lower 60s through Monday night.
Tuesday will also be sunny and comfortable as this quiet stretch continues. The ridge keeping us dry will head out to sea on Wednesday, and our temperatures and humidity levels will jump up once again. Highs will be around 90 degrees, with cloud cover starting to increase. Our one and only chance for rain and storms comes with a front on Thursday, though at this point this activity looks isolated at most. Another cooldown comes behind that front heading into Friday and next weekend.
