Man pleads guilty after beating 55-year-old to death in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A man is facing a possible maximum of 15 years behind bars after he beat a person to death in Southeast D.C. four years ago.

The Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced Monday that 35-year-old Charles Lewis entered a guilty plea for second-degree murder in connection with the death of Mark Carter.

On Oct. 10, 2022, Lewis confronted Carter in an alleyway off Southern Avenue about an ongoing feud regarding the use of a car that belonged to a family member.

Carter was with the car in the alleyway when Lewis grabbed him and threw him to the ground. Lewis then punched and kicked Carter repeatedly in the head and body until he became unresponsive…
