Small earthquake recorded near Jim Thorpe late Saturday night; several in PA in past month

JIM THORPE, CARBON CO. — A minor earthquake was recorded in Carbon County late Saturday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The magnitude 1.8 earthquake occurred at 11:32 p.m. near the Crooked Run stream area in Jim Thorpe, just north of Hemlock Drive. The quake was recorded at a depth of about 5 kilometers, or roughly 3.1 miles.

As of Sunday afternoon, the USGS had not received any reports from residents who felt the earthquake. Small earthquakes of this magnitude often go unnoticed unless they occur very close to populated areas…
