PPL customers will see higher electricity rates beginning July 1 despite a new settlement aimed at limiting the burden of data center energy costs on small customers.
The average residential customer will see a distribution rate hike of about 4.9%, paying about $184.49 per month total, according to the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission. The average small commercial customer will see an average bill of $186.76, reflecting a rise of about 5.5%. Industrial customers will see a rate hike of 2.5%, for an average bill of about $2,467.40.
PPL raises rates for 1st time in a decade
The final figures are lower than those originally proposed by PPL, which serves many residents on the western side of Bucks County. The electric company had wanted to raise residential rates by 7%.
