Crews battle Blue Mountain wildfire on Lehigh-Carbon County line

CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — The command center is set, and crews are tackling a wildfire on the Blue Mountain. Officials say a call came in around 11 a.m. Sunday morning in Lehigh County for a fire on the Appalachian Trail in Washington Township near Slatington.

“The fire was initially reported at 5 to 10 acres and grew after that, aircraft informed of a bigger acreage than originally reported,” said Bill Deaton, Bureau of Forestry PIO.

Officials say this incident has been named the ‘charcoal fire.’ The flames spread just over the Carbon County line in East Penn Township, near Palmerton, burning 87 acres…
