LEHIGHTON, Pa. — At 100 years old, Chester “Chet” Frantz stands at attention as community members inside the Lehighton American Legion Post 314 in Carbon County honor him for his years of service and as the last surviving member of the post’s WWII Veterans Last Man’s Club.
Beside Chet is Sarah Frantz, his granddaughter. “I’m just speechless. I knew going into this, I knew that we were looking at having senators here, having news crews come as well, but actually seeing it, actually being here, it takes my breath away.”
While Sarah calls him a hero, “Oh! She tells lots of lies!” says Chet. He believes the true honor goes to the 4,000 soldiers who lost their lives fighting the same fight. “Oh, I keep thinking of the 4,000 casualties…Lots of friends.”…
