Girl Scout creates a choir for seniors to remember the past

In a common room at Cedarhurst Senior Living in Canton, the music starts softly. A few voices find the melody first. Then more join in, some with full lyrics, others humming along, each note meeting them where they are.

For many in this choir, the songs feel familiar, even when other details do not.

“They’ll hear a snippet of music, and they’ll start singing it or humming it,” said life enrichment director Samantha Seitz. “If they don’t remember the words, they remember the tune. And it brings joy to them.”…
