Police: Marietta man raped, strangled pregnant woman

Ryles Phillip Kirkland, 29, of Marietta, is accused of raping a pregnant woman on May 29 at 10 a.m. at a Palmyra Drive condo in Marietta, according to an arrest warrant from the Marietta Police Department.

Kirkland is charged with raping the victim, who was 10 weeks pregnant, after she repeatedly told him stop. During the incident, the victim was also strangled, leaving visible bruising and scratches on her neck. The victim said Kirkland hid her keys and phone. She had to wait until he fell asleep to locate those items and then sneak out of the house. Kirkland was found to have cocaine inside of a small plastic bag in his wallet while being booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to the warrant.

Kirkland is charged with aggravated assault – intent to rape; rape; battery – pregnant; possession of cocaine; crossing the guard line; and false – imprisonment/confinement. He was arrested on May 29 at 8:30 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records…
