After years of military service, working as a lawyer and being involved in the community, it seemed natural for a friend to ask Michael Murphy to run for a seat on the Gwinnett County Board of Education in the late 1990s.
Murphy, however, decided to pass on the opportunity, instead recommending his wife, Mary Kay, be the elected official in the family. In the process, Murphy gained a new hat to wear for the next quarter of a century: loving campaign manager.
Murphy passed away earlier this month at the age of 88. A visitation will be held 5 p.m., followed by a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at H.M. Patterson and Son-Oglethorpe Hill Funeral Home, located at 4550 Peachtree Road in Atlanta…
