New microchip scanning stations open in Cherokee County

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Reuniting a lost pet with their owner should now be easier in Cherokee County thanks to new microchip scanning stations.

The county opened the stations on Friday at three locations:

  • Cherokee County Animal Shelter Intake Building; 131 Chattin Dr. in Canton
  • Cherokee Veterans Park; 7345 Cumming Hwy. in Canton
  • Patriots Park; 1485 Kellogg Creek Rd. in Woodstock

The stations include signs on how to use them, as well as tips for what to do if a microchip is or isn’t found.

Two years ago, Cherokee County Animal Control officers Nichalas Liddle and Meghan Davis pitched the idea to their supervisor — and they were able to implement it after being tasked with reducing the number of strays the Marshal’s Office takes to the shelter…
