Invasive zebra mussels spread to Lake Meredith in the Texas Panhandle

The invasive zebra mussel has established itself in a new Texas lake.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has designated Lake Meredith, near Amarillo, as fully “infested” with invasive zebra mussels. The designation means an established, reproducing population of the invasive mussels is present in the lake.

In late May, partners with the U.S. Geological Survey Zebra Mussel Monitoring Program reported to TPWD that potential microscopic zebra mussel larvae had been detected in routine samples from three locations in the lake.
