AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – One of Amarillo’s most recognizable Route 66 landmarks is glowing once again after a years-long restoration project.
The historic neon sign at Cattleman’s Club and Cafe has been restored through a partnership between the Texas Historical Commission and the City of Amarillo’s Business Improvement Grant Program.

According to Drew Brassfield, the city’s assistant director of planning, the project began after the Texas Historical Commission conducted a sign survey in Amarillo in 2016. The survey identified nine signs that met the criteria for historic designation. Two businesses, Cattleman’s Club and Cafe and Eastridge Lanes, ultimately committed to the restoration process.
Brassfield said the Cattleman’s sign had deteriorated to the point that it required a complete rebuild. During the restoration, crews examined layers of paint to determine the sign’s original appearance while preserving the familiar look many Amarillo residents remember…
