AAA Texas: Gas prices fall, still higher than last Independence Day

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As reported by AAA Texas’ Weekend Gas Watch, the average gas price across Texas was $3.34 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday. This price is two cents less than it was last week and 60 cents more compared to the same day last year.

According to AAA Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.60 per gallon, while drivers in the Laredo area are paying the least at $3.16 per gallon. Amarillo drivers are currently paying an average of $3.29 per gallon, which is four cents less than last week and 59 cents more compared to the same day last year.

Officials note that pump prices have steadily declined as crude oil prices have fallen to their lowest level in months.

“Gas prices remain higher than drivers have seen in recent years leading into Independence Day, but the steady decline since late May is providing some much-needed relief at the pump,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Lower crude oil prices are helping push fuel costs down during one of the busiest driving periods of the year, which should be welcome news for summer travelers.”
