Timeless Amarillo tradition of cruising Polk Street returns in August

One of Amarillo’s most cherished traditions is making its return.

On Saturday, Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Legendary Polk Street Cruise returns to downtown Amarillo, inviting car enthusiasts, families, and the entire community to relive the excitement of cruising historic Polk Street.

Any Baby Boomer who grew up in Amarillo during the ’50s-’70s can remember dragging Polk Street, going up and down, waving or yelling at people, doing the Chinese fire drill (when passengers in the car hopped and ran around the car at a red light), driving to the turnaround at the end of Polk and driving it again…
