Rep. Ken King speaks on data center boom

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Texas, like many parts of the country, is seeing a boom in data centers in the area.

As we previously reported, there are over 10 data center proposals in Amarillo alone and even more across the Panhandle. With the boom being seen in the state, many residents and state officials are asking what happens next.

State Representative District 86 Ken King talked more about data centers and the concerns that he has heard, the first being about water.

“I met with a group of hyperscalers just a couple of weeks ago that were explaining a process to build the microchips that are self-cooling, where they will use no water. But the water question that I think is more important to the people is that data centers can have a closed loop,” added Rep. King. “They can have the air cool, they can have self-cooling microchips, but that power generation they’re bringing in to create all these additional gigawatts of power.”…
