A Weather Alert Day has been issued by the Storm Search 7 Weather Team for dangerous, record breaking heat. Heat alerts are in place for the entire Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles as well as a majority of eastern New Mexico.
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Palo Duro Canyon and the northern and northeastern Panhandles Monday afternoon and evening. Temperatures up to 111 are possible. A Heat Advisory is in effect for the rest of the area for Monday afternoon and evening. Temperatures here could rise as high as 109.
This is dangerous, record breaking heat. Make sure to check on those without AC and those more susceptible to heat related illnesses. Stay hydrated and stay inside during peak heating hours if possible.
Many areas will likely break or shatter records today. If Amarillo stays in the triple digits through the middle to end of the week, it could tie or break the all time record for most consecutive days above 100 degrees.
