AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Shelters and rescue organizations across the Texas Panhandle are working to find homes for animals as part of NBCUniversal Local’s annual Clear the Shelters campaign.
Throughout the month, KAMR Local 4 News visited five local organizations to highlight the animals in their care, the challenges they face and the different ways people can help.
Clear the Shelters: Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare hopes adoptions ease overcrowding
Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare averages around 250 dogs and 100 cats during the summer months, putting the shelter over capacity. Outreach Manager Kali Dennis said adopting an animal not only gives that pet a home but also creates space for another animal in need.
Throughout August, the shelter is offering 50% off adoption fees for adult animals. Adoption fees include spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip.
