Scene One Entertainment announces Westgate Cinemas will open in February

The reopening of the newly branded Scene One Westgate Cinemas at the Westgate Mall in Amarillo has been officially delayed. Due to supply chain issues, its opening date has been pushed back to mid February.

Joe Masher, owner and CEO of Scene One Entertainment, said that he is excited to open the Amarillo theater, and the wait for projection equipment and repair parts has delayed the opening. He is now shooting for a Feb. 13 event opening, with a grand opening planned for Feb.14.

“Even if we do not have six machines running by that date, we can still just open fine by then,” Masher said.

This opening will be the first for Scene One Entertainment in the state of Texas. It may be the second opening in February for the company, with the Wilton Mall Cinema, with eight screens in Wilton, New York, targeted to be opened in February as well.

Scene One Entertainment announced its plans earlier this month to reopen the Amarillo location that closed three years ago.

The theater originally opened as a first-run United Artists movie theater in 1988. At the time of its closing, the Premiere Cinemas theater was a second run, or discount movie theater, which showed films at a discount price after their initial run in regular movie theaters. Scene One said the newest iteration of the movie theater will show first-run movies.
