5 adults, 1 juvenile arrested after weekend operation connected to recent shootings

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Five adults and one juvenile were arrested on Saturday after an operation in response to recent shootings across Amarillo.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, intelligence-driven efforts were used to target areas connected to the recent violent activity. The operation focused primarily on the San Jacinto and Hamlet neighborhoods and involved multiple units, including SWAT, K9, PACE, the Amarillo Regional Crime Center and Crime Analysts.

The following arrests were made during the operation:

  • Chuong Tang, 29, was arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon and booked into the Potter County Jail.
  • Melvin Orellana-Arana, 19, was arrested for a municipal warrant for no insurance and was booked into the Randall County Jail.
  • Nikolai Davenport, 21, was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm by a gang member and booked into the Potter County Jail.
  • McKenzie Venable, 22, was arrested for assault on a public servant and booked into the Potter County Jail.
  • Jesse Aranda, 17, was arrested for disorderly conduct, fighting, and booked into the Potter County Jail.
  • A 15-year-old male was also arrested for disorderly conduct (fighting), resisting arrest, possession of tobacco by a juvenile, and public intoxication and was booked into the Youth Center of the High Plains.

Police also said four guns were confiscated, and two suspects were confirmed gang members…
