Amarillo Fire Department responds after car sparks Thursday house fire

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Amarillo Fire Department released information on a Thursday evening fire at a home in the 1300 block of NW 18th Avenue, which officials believe might have been started by a vehicle in the backyard.

According to the department, crews responded to a fire reported at a home in the 1300 block of NW 18th Avenue at around 6:05 p.m. on Thursday. Crews saw “heavy fire and smoke” coming from the rear of the home when they arrived at the scene, with multiple vehicles, a detached shed, and part of the home involved in fire.

The department used multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire, as well as checked for fire within the home and performed ventilation, search and overhaul operations. The fire was reported under control in about 20 minutes.
