‘We hear you,’ city officials respond to uproar over high water bills

Amarillo City Manager Grayson Path was joined by Rich Gagnon, assistant city manager and chief technology officer who oversees the city’s utility billing department, at a news conference Tuesday, May 12, ahead of the regular meeting of the Amarillo City Council in City Hall, to address rising concerns over dramatic increases in residents’ water bills.

Path took the lead by acknowledging that people were upset and frustrated and having a hard time getting through to them due to the large number of calls.

He said around 670 customers have reached out via the forms, and about the same number in calls and emails, mostly residential customers. Number wise, that’s about 1%, but he’s waiting on getting more data back because they can’t assume everyone has been able to reach them, or that they’ve gotten through the entire email list…
