California crews working to get people home after chemical tank threat

(NewsNation) — Just after the threat of an explosion at a chemical tank in Garden Grove, California, was eliminated, crews are still working to make sure conditions don’t escalate.

Greg Barta, the public information officer for the Garden Grove HAZMAT Incident, said in a video posted to X that crews are neutralizing tanks next to the one that posed the threat of exploding and making sure they don’t reach a temperature of 100 degrees or higher.

“I’m pleased to report the temperature is holding at 92 degrees,” Barta said of the main tank at GKN Aerospace.

Due to the incident, which started Saturday, there were some 50,000 residents in Garden Grove and surrounding areas were ordered to evacuate in case of an explosion. There are still 16,000 residents evacuated as of Tuesday afternoon…
