Man extradited from Mexico in connection with 2024 deadly Boyle Heights shooting

A man arrested in Mexico was extradited to the U.S. to face a murder charge in connection with a deadly freeway shooting in Boyle Heights nearly two years ago, officials said Thursday.

The shooting that happened on the 5 Freeway near Lorena Avenue on Oct. 10, 2024, left one man dead and another injured, according to the California Highway Patrol. The man who died was 29-year-old Encarnacion Escobedo, authorities said.

The suspects took off and were later identified as 21-year-old Christian Rojas of Bellflower and 47-year-old Joshua Rojas Sr. of Downey, the CHP said. The latter was arrested in San Bernardino nearly two weeks after the shooting and remains in custody awaiting trial…
