Please, don’t blow up the Fourth

The nation’s 250th birthday is being celebrated all week, climaxing on Saturday with Fourth of July events including parades, picnics, carnivals and – especially – fireworks.

Although the tradition since the days of John Adams, the growth of urbanization and the use of especially dangerous pyrotechnics has led to many cities – including the four in our West Orange County coverage area to step up efforts to curb the useßof illegal fireworks and the unlawful modification of legal “safe and sane” versions.

Such abuses have led to fires, injuries and even deaths. Countless pets have been so terrified by the noise and bright lights that they flee their homes.

This year, local governments have stepped up their efforts to curb the abuses that sometimes accompany the holiday…
