Drones help seize 1,000 pounds of fireworks in Orange County

Using drones to help detect and identify Orange County residents firing illegal fireworks over the Fourth of July weekend, authorities seized more than 1,000 pounds of explosives.

In a post to X, officials with the Santa Ana Police Department said drone operators, patrol officers, and members of the Direct Enforcement and Quality of Life teams were involved in the operation.

Nearly 200 people received citations for possessing illegal fireworks.

On Tuesday, members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad assisted Santa Ana police in safely disposing of the contraband.
