A bloodless bullfight is taking place in Artesia today, part of a centuries-old religious tradition known as the Festa do Espírito Santo — or Festival of the Holy Spirit.
The performance features matadors and horsemen using Velcro-tipped darts to try to stick them onto a Velcro pad worn by the bull.
“It’s Velcro on Velcro. It, most of the time, sticks. Sometimes it doesn’t,” said Paul De Medeiros, one of the organizers. “We don’t want to injure the animals.”…
