Founded by Ben and Michelle Lioe, Purrs in Paradise grew out of their experience rescuing two feral kittens, Dozy and Leia, in 2020. According to the founders, the experience inspired them to create a cat lounge where visitors could spend time with adoptable cats in a calm, tropical-inspired setting while supporting efforts to help cats find permanent homes. The couple began developing the concept in 2023 and eventually brought it to The CAMP in Costa Mesa after years of planning and design.
Inspired by cat lounges they encountered during their travels, the space combines their interests in hospitality, design, travel, and animal welfare. Ben is an Orange County native, while Michelle is originally from Kansas City, and the couple said their shared love of cats has continued to shape the business.
