‘The Wire’ Star Slams ‘Unruly, Obnoxious’ World Series Fans

Beloved character actor Wendell Pierce , best known for his portrayal of Detective Bunk Moreland in the acclaimed HBO series The Wire , unfortunately did not receive the best reception while attending Game 5 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. The 61-year-old later took to social media to admonish “unruly” and “obnoxious” fans for ruining the experience.

“Unfortunately I just left the Yankees game because I was talking to a Dodgers fan and people were throwing things at me,” Pierce, a Dodgers fan, posted to X on Wednesday night. “Unruly, obnoxious people can ruin everything. The worst experience ever. The game and experience is of no significance now. The spirit of sports ends with the ugliness of humanity.”

It’s unclear when in the game Pierce experienced the unfortunate behavior. But it may have had something to do with the Yankees blowing an initial 5–0 lead to the Dodgers, which rebounded with five unearned runs to win the game with a narrow 7–6 lead. The win clinched the Dodgers eighth franchise World Series title.
