Uptick in catalytic converter thieves reported in L.A. County community; police advise residents to not confront suspects

Amid an uptick in catalytic converter thefts in Whittier, police in the community are warning residents to not confront suspects if they catch them in the act, as they may be armed.

The thefts tend to happen in the overnight hours, according to the Whittier Police Department.

“Our region and city continue to be impacted by overnight thefts of catalytic converters. These criminals work in teams and are often armed – DO NOT CONFRONT THEM!” the department said, explaining that a firearm was recently pointed at a Whittier resident who interrupted a theft in progress…
