Santa Ana Winds Collide With Southern California Fires Resulting in Decreased Air Quality and Increased Temperatures

Southern California has been hit from multiple sides in a combination of fires, reduced air quality, and Santa Ana winds, all of which have fueled one another leading to increased concern for Californians’ health and safety.

The Santa Rosa Island Fire, which is now the largest recorded fire on Santa Rosa Island, was sparked by a shipwrecked mariner’s flares in response to a collision in the rocky waters. Burning over 14,600 acres and 0% contained, the smoke from this fire has spread to the coast of California.

As the fire continues to burn uncontained, areas such as Ventura and Camarillo are expected to receive high levels of smoke and haze, which is set to descend into Los Angeles County as the day goes on, according to Chief Meteorologist Mackenzie Lake of News Channel 3-12…
