Anchorage crews carefully remove commemorative bricks during park renovation

Back in the 1990s, many Anchorage residents purchased commemorative bricks that became a familiar part of Town Square Park’s landscape. Now, with a major renovation underway at the park, those bricks are being carefully removed one by one.

City crews are working to preserve as many of the bricks as possible, and officials say any that remain intact will be made available for their original owners to reclaim.

“We just want to provide the opportunity for people to pick them up,” said Nicolette Chimato with Anchorage Parks and Recreation. “A lot of people purchase them and their family member is now gone. So it’s important to a lot of people to at least have the opportunity to see if their brick made it to this time.”…
