ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Three dozen people on board a tour boat in Southeast Alaska were rescued Thursday after the vessel started taking on water, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.
The crew of the Eagle One Express intentionally beached the boat on the shore of Annette Island, according to the Coast Guard, after it began taking on water Thursday morning.
Coast Guard officials said they received the mayday call around 8:50 a.m. After an urgent call was issued by Coast Guard watchstanders, two response boats and four good Samaritan boats showed up just past 9 a.m. to find the Eagle One Express beached on the shore.
In total, 36 people were rescued from the stricken vessel — 33 passengers, two crew and the captain — in the area around Nichols Passage. There were no injuries reported by the Coast Guard…
