ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Alaska Native Plant Society held a wildflower garden workshop at the Campbell Creek Science Center, welcoming volunteers of all skill levels to help maintain the center’s native plant gardens and learn techniques they can apply at home.
Invasive plants
Ginger May, a volunteer for the society and coordinator of the Campbell Creek Science Center Gardens, said the work is urgent.
“There is a big problem with invasive plants crowding out native plants,” May said. “And the animals have not evolved with those plants and so they may not provide the right kind of food or shelter for those animals.”
May said the goal is to support native plants in urban areas while preventing invasive species from spreading into wild areas…
