ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – It’s happened again.
About 84 million cubic yards of mountainside were left unsupported after South Sawyer glacier retreated.
The newly-exposed land came crashing down into deep fjord waters on Aug. 10, 2025, causing what scientists called a “mega tsunami” in Tracy Arm, which sits south of Juneau.
