‘It’s a healing process’: 21 Alaska veterans depart for Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Twenty-one veterans gathered at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport for a trip to Washington, D.C.

The trip is part of The Last Frontier Honor Flight. Travel is donated by Alaska Airlines, where veterans visit the memorials built in their honor.

A generation that never heard ‘thank you’

Brian Johansen, a Navy veteran who served from 1966 to 1974, grew up in Kenai and volunteered for the Navy at age 18.

“At that time, a lot of the boys, especially out of Alaska… we just thought it was a patriotic thing to do for our country,” Johansen said…
