ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Seven students from three different communities in the Lower Kuskokwim School District (LKSD) that had been evacuated to Anchorage after former Typhoon Halong celebrated their high school graduation Monday.
Six students — Patty Fox, Cadence Mesak, Charlie Paul and Miisaq Paul of Kipnuk, and Jason Lewis and Kenton Oscar of Kwigillingok — attended the ceremony at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, with one more graduate, Erica Sharp of Quinhagak, unable to attend but honored just the same.
“I’m very proud and happy because I’m graduating,” Charlie Paul said before the ceremony. “Even though if it’s not in my village, I would prefer to graduate there.”…
