ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Approximately 400 paratroopers of the 11th Airborne Division summited Gold Star Peak on Wednesday, in an annual pilgrimage paying tribute to their fallen, and the families that survive them.
The climb is organized in part by Gold Star Peak Inc., a nonprofit that is maintaining the trail and the memorials at the top of the mountain, which stands at about 4,100 feet of elevation.
Each year, the organization invites current soldiers of the Spartan Brigade stationed on Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson to make the climb during the week prior to Memorial Day…
