The Milan Area Fire Board honored two firefighters May 21 before moving through budget, staffing and equipment decisions as questions continued over York Township’s future fire coverage.
Firefighters Lewis Gerten and Travis Hamilton were pinned with their badges after completing probation with the Milan Area Fire Department. Both were hired in September 2024 and completed nearly 1,000 hours of emergency medical technician, fire academy and in-house department training.
“The badge they received tonight is more than a piece of metal,” Fire Chief DJ Carpus Jr. said during the ceremony. “It represents the responsibility, service, professionalism and the trust that our community places in us when they call for help.”…
