Summer has brought small uptick in violence, sparking concern, Washtenaw County sheriff says

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – The first few weeks of hot weather have brought a mild upswing in violence, sparking concern among law enforcement in Washtenaw County, according to the sheriff.

There have been roughly 30 more calls for shots fired in the county this year so far compared to 2025, said county Sheriff Alyshia Dyer. Coupled with several shootings in the county and one homicide, law enforcement is taking note.

“It’s too early to tell if this is going to be going on for the whole summer, but we all are working really proactively to hopefully make sure this trend does not continue,” she said…
