Saline High School students will have less access to their cellphones during the school day this fall, but the Board of Education stopped short of requiring them to remain put away from bell to bell.
Under a policy approved Aug. 4, students in grades 9-12 may use phones during lunch, but not during class or passing time. Existing restrictions for younger students will remain in place.
The policy responds to a new Michigan law requiring districts to restrict student use of wireless communication devices during instructional time. Board members spent much of the discussion deciding where to draw the line for high school students.
