Chelsea City Council approved an amendment to the city’s downtown sidewalk ordinance at the Aug. 10 meeting.
“This amendment expands the pedestrian-only sidewalk area to include sidewalks south to Van Buren to encompass the new Holmes Family Park and prohibits additional types of wheeled ‘vehicles,’ including all motorized vehicles not allowed under the ADA,” the meeting’s agenda reads.
City Manager Elle Cole stated that because the Holmes Family Park includes areas for skateboarding, and for pedestrian safety, the use of “wheeled and motorized devices” will be prohibited on the sidewalk outside the park…
