As one of the oldest cider mills in the nation, the Dexter Cider Mill is celebrating its 140th anniversary as a place where generations of people have made it a tradition to visit for fresh cider and doughnuts.
To mark the moment on Sept. 5, the cider mill had a celebration with the community with cider, donuts, live music, face painting, hot dogs on the grill, chilled hard cider and doughnut ice cream sundaes. The storms and power outage couldn’t stop this fun day with many people turning out .
The Dexter Cider Mill is the oldest continuously operating family-owned cider mill in Michigan. Since 1886, the mill has been making cider in the same building, along the same river, using the same oak rack press every fall.
The cider mill said they’re incredibly grateful to carry on the tradition for another season.
“Since 1886, generations of families have walked through our doors, watched cider being pressed along the river, picked up warm doughnuts from the bakery, and made the mill part of their fall traditions,” the Dexter Cider Mill said in its Facebook post about the anniversary. “First visits have turned into yearly traditions, children have grown up and brought back children of their own, and countless memories have been made here along the way.”…
