Ypsilanti neighborhood told homeless encampment expected to be cleared after missed Sept. 1 deadline

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Residents in a Ypsilanti neighborhood learned Tuesday night that a longtime homeless encampment behind their homes is now scheduled to be cleared out Wednesday, after a missed Sept. 1 deadline left many skeptical it would ever happen.

Neighbors living near Bell and Kramer streets met with Ypsilanti city officials and Washtenaw County leaders Tuesday evening to seek answers about why the wooded encampment remained occupied days after the city’s original deadline.
