Dexter Moves Forward with Annexation as Scio Talks Stall

The Dexter City Council on Sept. 14 approved moving forward with the proposed annexation of 45 acres from Scio Township, sending the matter toward a state review process that can ultimately authorize the annexation even without an agreement between Dexter and Scio Township.

Concurrently, Dexter continues to pursue an agreement directly with Scio Township, delaying action on a proposal until its next meeting so language concerning access to adjoining preserved land can be clarified.

At a July 27 meeting, Scio Township representatives indicated the proposed 425 agreement would be taken to the full Township Board for discussion. According to Dexter’s resolution of support for the project, city officials then attempted to continue those discussions and schedule additional meetings through August and early September, but received no further feedback or action from the township on either the proposed 425 agreement or Dexter’s request for a concurrent resolution…
