ANN ARBOR, MI — Ann Arbor’s new Fire Station 4 off Platt Road and Huron Parkway is nearing completion — slated to open in October — and it will feature some new public art.
“Three Ladder Fire” is a 24-foot-tall, 8-foot-wide sculpture built with decommissioned ladders from the Ann Arbor Fire Department that twist into a sculpted flame.
The $75,000 artwork by Alabama artist Christopher Fennell was funded through the fire station construction budget as part of the city’s ongoing commitment to integrating public art into civic projects, officials said.
“The use of retired ladders that once served the Ann Arbor Fire Department is a tremendous aspect of this project,” Fire Chief Mike Kennedy said in a statement. “The new fire station reflects the city’s commitment to both public safety and sustainability, and this sculpture is a fitting tribute to both.”…
