‘Just an albatross’: Vote delayed on Washtenaw County’s largest tax-capture deal

ANN ARBOR, MI — The biggest tax-capture deal for private development in Washtenaw County history has been postponed amid hesitancy from community members and commissioners.

The Washtenaw County board agreed 6-3 Wednesday night, May 6, to delay a vote on a brownfield plan for the mixed-use build planned for more than 20 acres off State Street and Eisenhower Parkway in Ann Arbor. The move, which came in a 6-3 vote, pushes the decision to May 20.

The plan calls for capturing up to $345 million in property taxes that the development would generate over 30 years to reimburse development costs.
