Metroparks Offers Free Swim Lessons to 5,100 Residents This Summer

Huron-Clinton Metroparks will provide free swim instruction to 5,100 people across more than 20 sites in five southeast Michigan counties this year. Everyone in the Pool serves those living in Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties.

The initiative tackles a life-or-death problem. Drowning kills more children ages 1 to 4 than any other cause.

“Water safety is an issue of access and equity,” said Amy McMillan, CEO of the organization according to the Macomb Daily. “Too many families still don’t have the opportunity to learn basic, lifesaving skills in and around water. Through Everyone in the Pool and our broader safety efforts, we’re working to close that gap by expanding free swim lessons and making sure families have the tools and confidence to stay safe.”…
